Hosting Guides
Understand the options, the running costs, and your recovery plan.
Choose hosting by the software your blog needs, the work you're prepared to manage, and how you'll recover from a failure. Storage and a low introductory price won't answer those questions.
A straightforward publishing setup can need less management than a site with custom applications, commerce, or a large plugin stack. Compare the responsibilities as well as the resources.
Compare the Responsibilities
Ask who handles the parts of the site you don't want to operate yourself.
- Shared hosting usually puts several sites on the same server environment.
- Managed hosting takes on specified maintenance tasks; check exactly which ones.
- A VPS gives you more control but also more responsibility unless management is included.
- Serverless hosting runs supported application code without a server for you to administer.
Plan for Recovery
Know how content, settings, and uploads are backed up and how you can restore them. A backup you cannot access or restore is a weak recovery plan.
Compare renewal pricing, resource limits, support scope, migration options, and the cost of leaving before you commit.
